Britain urged to clamp down on ‘vulture funds’.

BRITAIN IS being urged to help close down a legal loophole that lets financiers known as “vulture funds” use courts in Jersey to claim hundreds of millions of pounds from the world’s poorest countries.  The call came from international poverty campaigners as one of the vulture funds was poised to be awarded a $100 million (€74 million) debt payout against the Democratic Republic of Congo after taking action in the Jersey courts…

Hague says suppression of internet is not acceptable.

INTERNATIONAL “RULES of the road” must be agreed for the internet, but not at the price of freedom of expression, British foreign secretary William Hague has told a major conference in London.   “The internet is not separate from society, it is part of society and mirrors society,” he said. “The best and worst of human behaviour find expression online and the technology lends itself to misuse as well as to great benefit.”

It’s good to talk: Mobile phone use not linked to cancer, says new research – Health News, Health – Independent.ie.

THERE is no link between the long-term use of a mobile phone and getting brain cancer, research suggests.  In what has been described as the largest study on the subject, researchers found that cancer rates in the central nervous system were almost the same in both long-term mobile phone users and people who do not use the handsets, the study published on bmj.com found.
