Eight members of the Uganda air force received training on the Raven Dec. 12-23. The Uganda defense forces purchased four of the systems in July for $3 million, according to logistics management specialist Cindy Vanburg of AMCOM’s Security Assistance Management Directorate.

IRELAND’S LOW rate of acceptance of asylum applications largely explains the continuing drop in asylum seekers coming here in recent years, according to advocacy groups.Responding to figures which show asylum applications fell by one-third last year, the Irish Refugee Council and the Spiritan Asylum Service Initiative (Spirasi) called on Minister for Justice Alan Shatter to improve conditions for the 5,400 asylum seekers awaiting decisions.

World-renowned Senegalese singer Youssou Ndour announced Monday night that he was running for president against incumbent Abdoulaye Wade in February 26 elections. “I am a candidate,” the country’s most famous export declared on his privately-owned television station after weeks of speculation about his plans. “I have listened, I have heard, and I am responding favourably,” Ndour said, referring to numerous requests that he throw his hat into the political ring.

Israel okays funding to block African migrants – Bikya Masr.

 The Israeli government on Sunday voted unanimously to launch a $160 million program to curtail illegal African migrants ability to enter the country from Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. The program will boost the country’s ability to build a large border fence and will also expand a detention center able to hold thousands of new illegal arrivals.
