Four hundred and fifty-seven Nigerians convicted or awaiting trial for drug trafficking offences are being held in several Brazilian jails, the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said yesterday.
The Nigerians include a 72-year-old woman, Fausat Abosede; Lara Salami (62), Theresa Ezezue (60), Vivian Ajibua (57), Ngozi Dike (51), Amina Yusuf (51), Moronranti Afolayan (48), Benedicta Nneka (42), Stella Odilli (37), Ajibola Olajumoke (36), Folake Lawson (35), Vivian Etuwe (31) and Amaka Isilabo (28).

I’m going to become violent with the next person to describe the €67.5bn loan Ireland received in 2010 as a bailout. It wasn’t a bailout for anyone except the private bondholders who took the debt of private, badly run, banks, who stood to lose everything, and ended up with all their money back, all to aid in the preservation of the stability of the European banking system.

‘Mission to Prey’ — the baseless accusation that set off a bomb via @independent_ie.
LAST May RTE broadcast a ‘Primetime Investigates’ programme entitled ‘Mission to Prey’. It alleged that Fr Kevin Reynolds had committed statutory rape by fathering a child with an underage Kenyan girl called Veneranda while she was working as a maid in a house he frequented in Africa 30 years ago…
RTE apologised to Fr Reynolds and accepted the allegations were baseless, without any foundation and untrue.
