Spins are always a hot topic, and spin recovery is one of the first maneuvers you learn in flight training. Many of us learned the spin recovery acronym “PARE,” for Power, Aileron, Rudder and Elevator. It’s a great way to remember spin recovery technique – but do you know what each step does?

“The mass murder of civilians in Paris has inevitably reignited the debate over using military force in the Middle East to attack the Islamic State. The debate, like anything that gets tangled up in American presidential politics, is divorced from reality. The United States, and other nations, is already engaged in military action with some ground forces in Iraq and Syria.
The panicked reactions, fanned by right-wing politicians in the United States and Europe, to “declare war” on the Islamic State are mostly just noise. None of those proposing that kind of response offer the slightest idea of how it would be done; all they have is an understandable desire, which we share, to obliterate the terrorist group also known as ISIS.
President Obama struck the right note in his remarks on Monday: Military action can be only one part of a broader strategy that the United States and its partners will have to pursue over many years. Important Muslim nations, notably Saudi Arabia, will simply have to stop paying for and politically enabling the mosques, imams and paramilitary groups that fuel extremists and their virulent perversions of Islam. Moderate Muslims need to redouble efforts, begun after 9/11, to ensure that their vision of a more tolerant and inclusive Islam prevails…”

“This is the land of Isis, the jihadi organisation in control of swaths of Syrian and Iraqi territory. The trade in oil has been declared a prime target by the international military coalition fighting the group. And yet it goes on, undisturbed.
Oil is the black gold that funds Isis’ black flag — it fuels its war machine, provides electricity and gives the fanatical jihadis critical leverage against their neighbours.
But more than a year after US President Barack Obama launched an international coalition to fight Isis, the bustling trade at al-Omar and at least eight other fields has come to symbolise the dilemma the campaign faces: how to bring down the “caliphate” without destabilising the life of the estimated 10m civilians in areas under Isis control, and punishing the west’s allies?
The resilience of Isis, and the weakness of the US-led campaign, have given Russia a pretext to launch its own, bold intervention in Syria.
Despite all these efforts, dozens of interviews with Syrian traders and oil engineers as well as western intelligence officials and oil experts reveal a sprawling operation almost akin to a state oil company that has grown in size and expertise despite international attempts to destroy it…”

Ireland aims to be the world leader in a global computer science programme for school children.

The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics.
Taking place from December 7-13, the Hour of Code is being coordinated in this country by its Irish partners, Excited – The Digital Learning Movement, with the Irish Independent as its media partners.
The Hour of Code aims to pass on skills to children by introducing 100m students to computer science.
Former junior education minister Ciaran Cannon is the founder of Excited – The Digital Learning Movement.
The Fine Gael TD says the movement has a specific target in mind this year.
“Last year, Ireland staged the second most Hour of Code events per capita in the world. This year we can be first,” he said.

A major new aviation event, The Skyglobe Challenge TransAfrican Air Race will see scores of private jets race around Africa, departing from Banjul, Gambia on 1 January 2016 for a 12,000 nautical mile lap of the continent.

Afraid of stalls? You’re not alone. In fact, nearly every student pilot is apprehensive about stalls – especially full stalls.
Think about it… Your stall warning horn’s blaring in the background (a sound that clearly indicates you should stop doing whatever you’re doing), your aircraft’s nose suddenly jerks down and a random wing drops. You try to correct and everything gets worse. No wonder nearly every student pilot has sweaty palms during their first (and second, and third) full power-off stall.

A crew member onboard a helicopter captured the moment an A380 flew under their helicopter while filming a stunt for an Emirates promotional film

A video has emerged of an amazing moment the world’s biggest passenger plane, the A380. flew underneath a hovering helicopter.
The manoeuvre was perfromed near Dubai in the UAE as part of a promotional film for Emirates Airlines.
The helicopter was being used as a filming platform, however, the footgae from the video above is from a mobile phone from the flypast.
In the video, the plane can be seen swooping in from the right of the helicopter and then flying underneath and exits on the left.
