Lovely pictures. Many thanks for sharing
I just love the colors of this Red Admiral butterfly (Vanessa atalanta) that I photographed on Monday at Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge. I mean, really, how can you not like an insect that sports the red, white, and blue?
You don’t have to be American to like those three colors—it seems like there are an awful lot of countries that use them in various shades and patterns in their national flags.

Thank you so much Peter. I don’t know if I mentioned it but my oldest son is in the Australian Air Force currently posted to Darwin in the Northern Territory. Although he is not a pilot (works in communications) he has always had a strong affinity with aeroplanes. He can look at one flying up there somewhere and immediately identify what type of craft it is. I find that totally mind-blowing.

Yes, there is something about flying that is mind-blowing. Whether you fly planes, build planes, maintain planes or work in close proximity to planes I have and will always feel its a privilege…
